If you’re an enthusiast of local history, grew up here or are new to the area and want to know more about the early days of Post Falls, consider attending the upcoming annual meeting of the Post Falls Historical Society.

The meeting takes place at 6 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Post Falls Library, 821 N. Spokane St.

Each January, members of the society’s board of directors share the organization’s recent activities and future goals, elect board members and officers for the next year and socialize with fellow members. It’s also an easy opportunity for visitors to learn about the group and sign up or renew their memberships.

All are welcome to attend.

The society began in 1988. The nonprofit organization is dedicated to sharing and preserving local history. It also works closely with other heritage and local historical groups including the Museum of North Idaho, Spokane Valley Heritage Museum and the Coeur d’Alene Tribe.

Volunteer members operate the Post Falls Museum, at 101 E. Fourth St., on the Post Falls City Hall campus. The museum typically opens in May and closes at the end of October.

Museum admission is free, although donations are always accepted.

Active historical society members also receive free admission to participating museums and historical centers throughout Idaho that are part of a reciprocal membership program organized by the Idaho State Historical Society. Members also receive a regular newsletter.

The society puts on a variety of community activities throughout the year, including offering ice cream during the Post Falls Festival and a fall fundraiser.

The society board of directors meets at 6 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at the museum and via Zoom.
