PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: St. Maries bounces back

ST. MARIES — Tristun Hill had six points, four blocks and four rebounds, and his defense on Carter Mundt earned praise from St. Maries coach Bryan Chase after the Lumberjacks beat the Grangeville Bulldogs 56-21 on Saturday in Central Idaho League play.

“Tristun did a real good job staying in front of him, and blocking some shots early on,” Chase said.

Trace Wicks made 4 of 6 3-pointers in the middle two quarters and scored 14 points, and Dillon Holder added 12 points and three steals for St. Maries (5-3, 2-1 SIC), which was coming off losses to Bonners Ferry and Kellogg.

“It’s been a while since we lost a couple games in a row, and Ithink they took it out on Grangeville,” Chase said.

Grangeville is 2-10, 0-3.

St. Maries travels to Orofino on Thursday.

SANDPOINT — Parker Childs scored 28 points and Parker Pettit added 15 as the Bulldogs downed the Spartans in nonleague play at Les Rogers Court.

“Both Parkers really stepped up and led us today,” Sandpoint coach Brian Childs said. “This is the best game Parker Pettit has had this year. He made three hustle plays that really changed the momentum."

Jace Yount scored 20 points for Priest River (6-6), which visits Wallace on Friday.

Sandpoint (6-7) plays host to Moscow on Tuesday in a key Inland Empire League game.

POST FALLS — Joey Specht hit four 3-pointers and scored 29 points as the host Jaguars knocked off the Miners in Scenic Idaho Conference play at The Courts at Real Life.

Donovan Daniels added 18 points for Genesis Prep (4-7, 1-1 SIC), in a game where 52 fouls were called and 59 free throws attempted.

“We played in spurts,” Genesis Prep coach Lon Morast said. “We played really good for 3-4 minutes and really poor for 2-3 minutes … just glad we came out with a win.”

Aydin Hasz scored 19 points for Wallace (3-7, 0-1), which was 12 of 27 from the line. Genesis Prep was 18 of 32.

Genesis Prep plays host to Mullan on Thursday.

PLUMMER — It took a little longer than senior Vander Brown might have wanted, but he reached the 1,000-point plateau for his Knight career in the third quarter at Ron Miller Court.

“He was really thinking about it all day,” Lakeside coach James Twoteeth said. “He was missing some open shots and was pressing a little, but once he calmed down he got there.”

Brown had 21 points and eight assists, Liam Hendrickx scored 22 for the Knights against the Vikings.

“We usually like to speed teams up, but they handled our press pretty well,” Twoteeth said. “But we were able to play a good half-court game and hit a lot of jumpers.”

Lakeside (6-2) visits Bonners Ferry on Friday.

KELLOGG — Riply Luna scored 34 points on 11-of-13 shooting, and the host Wildcats beat the Maniacs at Andrews Gymnasium for their third Central Idaho League win in three days.

Luna scored 17 points in the first quarter, 15 in the third for Kellogg (8-3, 4-0 CIL). He was 3 of 5 from 3-point range, and 9 of 10 from the free-throw line.

“Our press bothered them a little bit early, we got out in transition, he saw some stuff go in the hole, and it got him in a pretty good groove,” Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “We jumped on them early in both halves.”

Riply also had five rebounds, seven assists and four steals.

Kolby Luna hit three 3s and added 11 points, all in the first half, and also had five rebounds and three steals.

Loudan Cochran scored 12 points for Orofino (6-2, 1-1).

Kellogg plays host to Lakeland on Tuesday.
