Louie Mahoney, 73

Louie Mahoney passed away Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023, at his home in Plummer, Idaho. He was 73 years old.

Born April 11, 1949, in Kellogg, Idaho, Louie was a resident of Plummer, Idaho, and a proud member of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe. After graduating from Plummer High School in 1968, Louie enlisted in the U.S. Army and obtained the rank of Sergeant while serving with the 173D Airborne Brigade. For his bravery and successful accomplishments in combat during the Vietnam War, Louie was awarded the Bronze Star Medal amongst other Army commendation medals. Upon returning home, Louie joined the Coeur d'Alene Tribal Police, worked with the U.S. Forest Service, and later followed his entrepreneurial aspirations while raising his family.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving father and grandfather, Louie also loved spending time with friends and family, fishing, gardening, reading novels, watching football, cooking and sharing his faith in God. Louie was full of humor and had a generous, loving heart.

Louie was predeceased by his parents, George and Edith Mahoney, brother John Mahoney, and nephew Zachariah Mahoney. He is survived by three children, Kathleen Mahoney, Levi (Jenalynn) Mahoney and Jaclyn Lathrop; former wife Kathleen Mahoney; three stepchildren, Lori (Bill) Bixby, Kimberly Reeser and Jonathon (Shauna) Stimmel; siblings Margaret (Cecil) Jose, Christine Meyer, Connie Mahoney and Pete (Peggy) Mahoney; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services for Louie will be held at the Worley Longhouse Community Center in Worley, Idaho at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2023.
