William "Pete" David Hohman, 84
William David “Pete” Hohman was born in Spokane, Wash., on Dec. 23, 1938.
It is with a heavy heart and great sorrow that we announce his passing Feb. 16, 2023. Pete was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 17 years ago and it finally won the battle.
Pete is survived by his wife of 35 years, Katie Brodie; his daughter, Jessica Halliday; stepdaughter and husband Brandie and Mike Chapman; stepson and wife Josh and Chelsea Beebe; grandchildren Connor Halliday, Skye and Marquis Wilson, Chloe Halliday, Ryan Chapman, Reilley Chapman, Kloey Bell and Brodie Beebe; one great-grandchild, Harlow J. Wilson; brother and sister-in-law Wayne and Dona Hohman; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Pete is preceded in death by his father, Clifford; mother Rosalind Hohman; and son Steven Hohman.
Pete graduated from Spirit Lake High School, where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. He also was an Eagle Scout and a delegate to Boys State. He continued his education at Washington State University, where he was active with the SAE fraternity and received his master’s degree in education.
Pete’s coaching and teaching careers began at Raymond High School and finished up at Port Angeles High School, where he was honored and enshrined in their Hall of Fame in 2021 for leading his team to an amazing undefeated 1967 season. He attended the ceremony and was so humbled by the outpouring of more than 700 people in attendance.
Coaching was his love and he carried that through his life. He was a sports guru and knew all the statistics of every team in every sport. When his coaching career was over, he came home to work in the family business. This gave him lots of time to “do a little of this and a little of that.”
The highlights of Pete’s life would be coaching at Port Angeles, playing golf for 40 years with the same foursome, taking many golf trips with his son, sons-in-law and later, grandchildren, watching any and all of his grandchildren in their activities, having all the family at Spirit Lake, poolside at Pine Road or having everyone enjoy spring break in Hawaii. He was a family kind of guy who really didn’t care where we were, as long as it was together.
A special shout out to Blondie, Georgia and Abba Dabba, caregivers at The Renaissance who were amazing, he loved you and I thank you!
There will be a celebration of Pete’s life at 2 p.m., Friday, March 3, 2023, at the Hayden Lake Country Club (2362 E. Bozanta Drive Hayden Lake, ID 83835).
