NIC TRUSTEES: Silence, lack of action troubling

| February 22, 2023 1:00 AM

Possibly one of the most troublesome aspects, besides the potential loss of accreditation for NIC, is the relative silence from the three trustees whose actions (and lack of actions) have brought this situation about.

A semblance of leadership could be demonstrated by keeping the community informed of what is being done to address the concerns listed in the accrediting agency’s “show cause” letter of Feb. 9. This could help address concerns of not only the instructors, students, and staff at NIC, but also their families. Their immediate future has been thrown into question.

This situation can also adversely impact the business community and the community in general as NIC provides skilled employees, contributes to economic activity, and provides for community events that would not otherwise be available.

Even Interim President South seems awfully quiet. How are those “accreditation heavyweights” that he brought with him helping resolve this issue. The community has the right to know.
