PREP BASKETBALL: Lakeside girls fall to top-seeded Lapwai in state opener

NAMPA — The Lakeside Knights ran into the tourney favorite in Lapwai, and fell to the Wildcats 69-9 in the first round of the state 1A Division I tournament at Columbia High.

Lakeside (13-9) hit just 3 of 44 (6.8%) from the field.

The eighth-seeded Knights play No. 4 Grace today at 1 p.m. PST in a loser-out game.

Jordyn McCormack-Marks scored 18 points for top-seeded Lapwai (24-1), which plays No. 5 Oakley (20-4) tonight at 6 in the semis. The Knights tied a classification record for fewest points allowed to an opponent.

BOISE — Junior guard Aliya Strock scored 20 points for the third-seeded Bulldogs in a 54-49 win over the sixth-Spartans of Rupert in the state 4A opener at Timberline High.

Sandpoint (18-5), in the semifinals for the first time since 2016, faces Columbia (15-10) of Nampa today at 4 p.m. PST at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa. This is the second year the 4A girls (and boys) semifinals will be played at the Idaho Center.

“I’m just looking forward to giving the girls the opportunity to play in the Idaho Center,” fifth-year Sandpoint head coach Will Love said. “Hopefully we can play there twice. Every year, we drive by there and point to it and say that’s where we want to play. And they’re going to get that opportunity.”

Junior CJ Latta, who is garnering Division I interest, finished with 34 points for Minico (16-8), which is at state for the first time since 2019.

Karlie Banks finished with 14 points, Kelsey Cessna 11 points for Sandpoint, which finished 17 of 34 from the free-throw line.

NAMPA — The eighth-seeded Wampus Cats kept it close for a half, but the top-seeded Mustangs pulled away after intermission in the first round of the state 1A Division II girls basketball tournament at Nampa High.

Emily Myers scored seven points for Clark Fork (8-13), which trailed just 18-12 at halftime.

Eloise Shelton and Hannah Thompson each scored five points for the Wampus Cats, at state for the first time since 2012.

Clark Fork will play fifth-seeded Leadore (19-5) tonight at 6 PST in a loser-out game.

Araya Wood scored 13 points for Deary (18-2), which plays Dietrich in the semifinals this afternoon.

KELLOGG — Senior twins Riply and Kolby Luna each eclipsed the 1,000-point career scoring mark on senior night as the Wildcats beat the Miners at Andrews Gymnasium.

Riply scored all 21 of his points in the first half, including four 3s and 16 second-quarter points for Kellogg (15-6). Kolby scored 20 of his game-high 25 in the first half, and finished with five 3s, four in the first half.

Each finished the game at 1,001 career points.

“It sounds made-up, honestly, but pretty incredible stuff, honestly,” third-year Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “It was good to send them off on a high note.”

Brad Tesky scored 20 points for Wallace (5-15), which plays Genesis Prep on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at North Idaho College in the semifinal of the 1A Division I tournament.

Kellogg plays host to Orofino on Monday at 1 p.m. in a semifinal game of the 2A District 1-2 tournament.
