Cd'A Charter, Lake City win big at speech, debate contest

Speech, debate and honors French and Spanish students from Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy and Lake City High School fared well at the three-day Thomas S. Foley Memorial Tournament held Feb. 2-4 at University High School in Spokane Valley.

Twenty schools from four states brought 201 competitors. Those competitors competed in as many as six different debate and speech formats, with a total of 526 entries held across 28 events.

Coeur d'Alene Charter won the first place Large School Division trophy, a first for the program. Charter's foreign language students engaged in the International Diplomacy competition, where they discussed issues and policies in their chosen language, no English spoken. Charter students took eight of the top 10 places.

LCHS placed third in the Large School Division, missing second place by a mere four points.
