Bowhunter class opens for hunting certification cards

Registration is open for a hunter and bowhunter certification course scheduled Feb. 17-19 at Farragut Public Shooting Range, 33644 N. Shooters Road, Athol.

The course will cover a range of topics centered on firearm and bowhunting and students will receive education certification cards when they pass the course. Students must complete all class sessions and pass the field exercises and a written test to receive certification.

Live fire is not a requirement in order to receive a hunter education certificate.

To purchase a hunting license, anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1975, must complete a hunter education course or show proof of an expired license in Idaho or another state.

To buy an archery permit, all bowhunters must have a valid hunting license and show proof they have completed an approved bowhunter education course. They can also provide an expired archer-only hunt permit issued by Idaho or another state.

The course is recommended for anyone over 9 years old and parents will have to check in any minors.

Students registering for this class will need to pick up a student manual to review prior to the class and complete the worksheets in the back of the manual before the first class session. Student manuals are available at the Fish and Game regional headquarters at 2885 W. Kathleen Ave., Coeur d'Alene from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. They’ll also be available at the Farragut shooting range from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.
