NIC: Time to show up for the college

| February 15, 2023 1:00 AM

Last chance, Kootenai County. In spite of oft-repeated campaign rhetoric and certain board member Facebook assertions that NIC’s accreditation was “never in danger,” here we are. “Sanction of Show Cause” is the NIC Board of Trustees’ final chance to pull NIC back from the brink of elimination…but will they? Do they want to? And are we, Kootenai County, willing to risk that they won’t and/or don’t want to? What happens to the thousands of local students, and our faculty and staff then?

The next regular NIC Board of Trustees meeting is Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. on the NIC campus. If you ever took a great class, received a technical/academic certificate, or Associate degree from NIC — you need to be there.

If you sent your children to NIC and they now are on their way in a career — you need to be there. If you are a business owner who regularly counts on NIC graduates (academic and technical/trades) for your workforce — you need to be there.

If you are staff or administration of any of our local high schools and realize that many of your graduates now won’t attempt college or technical school at all — you need to be there.

If you are angry at the frivolous/reckless spending of your Kootenai County tax dollars on multiple duplicate and “interim” administrative positions that were not hired through proper HR procedures — you need to be there.

Last chance — will you show up for NIC or wait silently to say goodbye?
