Richard Arthur Dunning, 90
Richard Arthur Dunning, age 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Feb. 9, 2023.
He was born March 22, 1932, in Rochester, N.Y., to Walter and Dorothea Dunning. After graduating in 1949, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country until 1952. On a boat heading to Korea, his ship was diverted to Alaska, where he fell in love with the land and was able to stay and homestead for years. He was one of two people who survived being on the docks during the Great Alaska earthquake March 1964. He was a member of Shriners and a lifelong member of the Scottish Rite Freemason where he held a 32nd Degree title. In 1977, Rich put a small add in a paper published in several states looking for his Tabby cat, which he found in his forever love, Ruby. They married in 1979 and made their way to Idaho. Enjoying retirement Rich and Ruby loved traveling RV’ing, boating and visiting with family and friends! He was baptized a Seventh day Adventist and made his church home in Hayden. Richard built houses for many years and enjoyed tinkering and relaxing.
Richard is preceded in death by his father, Walter, mother Dorothea, brother Eddie and loving wife Ruby.
He leaves behind his children Debbie, Dwain (Cindy), Drew (Rosie) and Allan (Jessica), his grandchildren Alicia, Michael, Chrystle, Daniel, Victoria, Shelby, Blake, Brad, Ariel, Noah, Lorelei, Elianna and Lincoln, and eight great-grandchildren, along with three step-children.
Visitation and Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023, at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene. Visitation from 11 a.m. to noon, funeral service starting at noon, burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery.
