COEUR d’ALENE — Freshman Kyleigh Wolfe scored a team-high 19 points for top-seeded Lakeside, which built a 39-19 halftime lead en route to a 63-41 win over the second-seeded Wallace Miners in the 1A Division I District 1 championship game at North Idaho College on Thursday.

Lakeside (13-6) advances to state for the first time since 2021, and will open play next Thursday at Columbia High in Nampa.

Lakeside beat Wallace 67-33 on Jan. 17 in Plummer, then fell to the Miners 53-21 in Wallace on Jan. 31.

“We played a lot better defense tonight,” Lakeside coach Chris Dohrman said. “That second game, we didn’t shoot that well at all and couldn’t buy a basket. I think we were 0 for 17 from the 3-point line and 10 of 29 from the field and 1 for 7 from the free-throw line. We watched the film and the shots weren’t falling.”

Senior Arianna Havier-Gorr scored 10 points for Lakeside, all in the first half.

Wallace junior Brittany Phillips scored 26 points, which went to state last year for the first time since 2008.

“I think their pressure kind of got to us and we couldn’t keep our composure,” Wallace coach Nicole Farkas said. “Lakeside’s tough. They’re a tough team and I think that the nerves got the best of us. But there’s no shame in losing to Lakeside. They’re a good team.”

“Wallace is a good team and they play hard,” Dohrman said. “They wanted to win just as bad as we did. Fortunately, we played well enough tonight and a lot of girls stepped up tonight and we got a good result.”
