Founding partner buys out Bombastic Brewing
A Post Falls entrepreneur who founded Bombastic Brewing is now the solo owner of the business.
Russell Mann recently bought out the partners who co-founded Bombastic Brewing with him in 2016. The transition comes on the heels of Bombastic Brewing’s multi-state expansion and receipt of three medals at the North American Brewers Association’s International Beer and Cider Awards. Details of the transaction were not disclosed.
“I’m looking to build on the momentum of these wins and our expansion into Washington, Montana and Utah,” Mann said. “We have strong recipes, a great brand and a love for craft beer.”
Known for its adventuresome and nontraditional craft brews, Bombastic Brewing is distributed in Idaho, Washington, Montana and Utah. Next, the company hopes to expand distribution to Oregon.
Key to Bombastic Brewing’s growth is its unique partner brewing model — something that wasn’t permitted in Idaho, Mann said. In the beginning, Bombastic Brewing was crafting its own beer 30 to 50 gallons at a time in a garage-style facility near the Coeur d’Alene Airport.
“The original strategy for Bombastic Brewing was always partner brewing,” Mann said.
He joined the Idaho Brewers United, a brewer’s guild, and the organization’s legislative committee. After years of lobbying and Mann’s testimony in front of Idaho’s House of Representatives, the partner brewing model was legalized in 2019.
Under the partner brewing model, Bombastic Brewing develops its own recipes and contracts production out to Northwest breweries. It lowers the overhead, gives Bombastic Brewing the ability to produce in greater volume and it helps other breweries supplement their income.
Bombastic Brewing’s latest release is Chatter, a crisp Mexican lager with lime and salt already added. Puddle, another recent release and Bombastic Brewing’s best seller, is an American Pale Ale brewed with Citra hops. The current lineup is rounded out with four varieties of stout: Murder, Attempted Murder, Shiver and Pandemonium.
Craft beer enthusiasts can find Bombastic Brewing’s beers at multiple retail outlets and upcoming events, including Destination: Beer 2023 set for Feb. 24-25 in McCall, Idaho. The Bombastic Brewing team is also planning a five-city tour in Montana in March.
