PREP ROUNDUP: Bonners Ferry, ranked No. 2 in 3A, topples St. Maries

ST. MARIES — In a matchup of teams missing their leading scorers due to injury, the visiting Bonners Ferry Badgers got 19 points from sophomore Asher Williams and beat the St. Maries Lumberjacks 56-46 in nonleague play Friday night.
Williams made two 3-pointers and hit 9 of 10 from the free-throw line for Bonners Ferry (16-1), ranked No. 2 in 3A. Charles Henslee and Trey Bateman added nine points each for the Badgers, who outrebounded St. Maries 34-21.
“That was a killer,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said. “It seemed like a lot of loose balls, 50/50 rebounds, went their way. They hit the boards well, and we just had a hard time.”
Trace Wicks scored 12 points for St. Maries (9-5) and guard Jared Badgett had a team-high five rebounds.
Bonners broke from a 24-all halftime tie by scoring the first 10 points of the third quarter.
“Bonners took at least five charges,” Chase said. “Just those extra little possessions are the difference between winning and losing.”
Four weeks ago, Bonners Ferry beat St. Maries 74-68 at home as Ridge Williams scored 19 points and Greyson Sands scored 35 for the Lumberjacks.
St. Maries plays at Logos today at 2:30.
Bonners Ferry returns to action next Friday at Kellogg.
