SNOHOMISH, Wash. — When things got stressful on Friday, no panic snuck into the huddle for the Lake City girls basketball team.

Instead, it was total focus.

Freshman Macy Murphey hit four 3-pointers, finishing with 12 points and junior Sadie Zimmerman hit a go-ahead basket in the fourth quarter as the Timberwolves rallied to beat Nooksack Valley of Everson, Wash., 55-48 in the championship game of the Top of the Peak Invitational on Friday at Glacier Peak High.

“They’re such a resilient bunch,” Lake City coach David Pratt said. “Everyone buys into what we’re trying to do and it makes them a fun group to coach and be around. When things got tight, they just asked what to do and they went out and did it and did it well.”

Seniors Avery Waddington and Sophia Zufelt scored nine points each for Lake City (14-1), which returns to action at Sandpoint on Thursday.

“We just had kids step up,” Pratt said. “We’ve got those kids that other teams gameplan for. But we had a group that just stepped up and made plays. Good teams are able to make runs, and everyone was right in the heart of that.”

Devin Coppinger, who is committed to Washington, scored 20 points for Nooksack Valley (4-1).
