JACC to host Robert Burns Night, Scottish celebration Jan. 20

| December 29, 2023 1:00 AM

The Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center will host a Salute to Scotland: Robert Burns Night 5-8 p.m. Jan. 20.

Guests are invited to join the JACC for a cultural celebration of Scotland and its famous poet during an evening of whiskey, poetry, highland dancing, art and a salmon dinner by the team at Gathered in Post Falls.

The evening will begin with whiskey or wine and live fiddle music. Attendees will then gather in the hall for the presentation of the haggis, a traditional Scottish dish, and a performance of highland dancing and music followed by the supper.

Burns was born in 1759 in Alloway, Scotland, and was a tenant farmer like his father, according to poetryfoundation.com, and became a tax collector toward the end of his life. His works celebrated farm life, regional experience, traditional culture and more. Burns, who is considered Scotland’s national poet, died in 1796.

Burns Night is annually held on or around Burns' Jan. 25 birthday. The traditional supper is an evening event that celebrates his life and work.

Admission to the JACC's Salute to Scotland: Robert Burns Night is $90. Visit thejacklincenter.org for tickets and info.

The JACC is at 405 N. William St., Post Falls.
