POST FALLS — Junior Carson Malinauskas scored 14 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter as the North Idaho Christian Royals overtook the Genesis Prep Jaguars for a 58-50 nonleague victory Friday night at The Courts at Real Life.

Caden Smith added 20 points and 16 rebounds for North Idaho Christian (6-3), and Ethan Antone scored 10 points.

“That’s a pretty big win for us; the best game we’ve put together by far,” Royals coach Derick Smith said. “Loved the way we played defense tonight.”

Sophomore Brady Rubert scored 17 points for Genesis Prep (4-5). Spencer Farrell added 15 points, Dylan Tosh 14 for the Jaguars.

“He took the ball to the hole really well,” Genesis Prep coach Lon Morast said of Malinauskas. “We ran out of gas and panicked in the fourth quarter when we weren’t hitting our shots.”

North Idaho Christian plays the Flathead Valley Home School Association next Friday at Holy Family Catholic School in Coeur d’Alene.

Genesis Prep returns to action Jan. 12 at home vs. Wallace.

KENNEWICK, Wash. — The Trojans, done in by allowing 13 offensive rebounds, fell to the Braves and saw their six-game win streak snapped.

“We were outrebounded 33-26, and that was really the difference in the game,” Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. “To be outrebounded by that much was something we couldn’t overcome tonight.”

Post Falls led 27-22 at halftime, but was outscored 30-19 in the second half.

“We shot our shots and missed a lot that we’ve been making all year,” McLean said. “We only shot 33%, and that was the lowest we’ve shot all year. Defensively, we had a very good effort, but we were just a step slow tonight and couldn’t finish some possessions tonight. Our shots just didn’t fall for us tonight.”

Senior Alex Shields scored 10 points, senior Asher Bowie had seven rebounds and sophomore Connor Carver had six points and seven rebounds for Post Falls (8-3), which hosts Lewiston on Jan. 5.

James Kinsey scored 23 points for Kamiakin (7-1).

Senior Leti Asper hit four 3-pointers in the third quarter for the Trojans, finishing with 18 points in a loss to the Braves.

Post Falls was without starting guard Myckenzee Mitley due to injury and two other reserves due to illness. The Trojans led 45-41 after three quarters, but were outscored 26-6 in the final quarter.

“It was a tough battle,” Post Falls coach Brian Hall said. “They’ve got some good height, but we hung right with them. We were up four headed to the fourth quarter, but having a thin bench, we just kind of ran out of steam.”
