COEUR d’ALENE — It wasn’t the first half was bad, but the second half was just a little more to the point for the host school.

Senior Avery Waddington scored 25 points, senior Sophia Zufelt scored 16 of her 24 points in the second half for the Timberwolves in a nonleague win over the Titans.

“We did a really good job defensively,” said Lake City coach David Pratt, whose team led 43-30 at halftime. “We played with a little more intensity in the second half. We were up 13, but hadn’t played very efficiently. We really came out and got after it in the second half.”

Lake City has won six straight games after a setback to Rocky Mountain on Dec. 1 at home.

“We’re hitting more perimeter shots and our flow offensively has been really good,” Pratt said. “They’re looking for the open person and it makes it more fun to watch. Our offense is coming on stronger.”

Lake City (11-1) faces King’s High of Shoreline, Wash., in the opening round of the Glacier Peak Invitational on Dec. 27 in Snohomish, Wash.

Kailee Alteneder scored eight points for University (4-2).

LAS VEGAS — Junior Carter Rupp hit 7 of 12 3-pointers and poured in 28 points as the Vikings beat the Mountain Lions at Sierra Vista High in a consolation game in the Spalding Bracket at the Tarkanian Classic.

“Good game for Carter,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jon Adams said. “I love our guys looking for him; everybody recognizes how good a shooter he is. He bailed us out a couple times in the second half.”

Rupp had 20 points in the second half, and hit four of his 3s after intermission for Coeur d’Alene (6-1). Sophomore Caden Symons added 13 for the Vikings, who bounced back from a loss in their tourney opener Monday.

“That’s why we like playing down here, it’s a different level of athleticism and speed and physicality,” Adams said. “Last night we hadn’t adjusted to the physicality. Today we responded.”

With the 7-foot-1 Xavion Staton, who has offers from Kansas, Texas and Virginia among others, Sierra Vista played zone in the first quarter.

But Coeur d’Alene shot the Mountain Lions out of said zone with six 3-pointers — three by Rupp, two by Symons, one by Eastern Oregon University commit Logan Orchard.

“Kai Wheeler got a body on him early,” Adams said of Staton, “and kept him from backing down. He probably had 15, 18 points, most of them on putbacks.”

Coeur d’Alene finished with 11 3s, with Orchard chipping in two.

Sierra Vista cut a 10-point Viking lead to three late, before Max Entzi sealed it with two free throws with 6 seconds left.
