RATHDRUM — Senior Kenton Ferguson hit a 3-pointer at the top of the key to force a second overtime for Lakeland, but Moscow senior Ian Hillman scored 22 of his team-high 26 points in the second half and overtime to send the Bears over the Hawks 85-82 in the Inland Empire League opener for both at Hawk Court on Friday.
Ferguson hit six 3-pointers and finished with five assists and two steals.
“He’s hit so many quality shots for us,” Lakeland coach Tony Hanna said. “Kenton played his heart out tonight. Defensively, we didn’t do a good enough job of keeping the ball in front of us and playing without fouling.”
Moscow was 24 of 32 from the free-throw line, compared to 16 of 24 for Lakeland.
Senior Ben Ryan had 10 points and 15 rebounds and junior Gabe Harris had 19 points and seven rebounds for Lakeland (4-2), which hosts Timberlake on Monday.
Brayson Reed scored 22 points for Moscow (3-3).

CLARKSTON, Wash. — When the Bantams tried to stuff the middle, Trojan guard Neil McCarthy opened things back up for his teammates.
McCarthy hit three of his four 3-pointers in the first quarter, finishing with 16 points and four assists for the Trojans in a nonleague win.
“We really sped them up and forced 19 turnovers,” Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. “It was a really rugged game and Clarkston did a good job of taking away our inside scoring, which left Neil open, which was really good for us tonight.”
Senior Asher Bowie had eight points and nine rebounds, senior Alex Shields had seven rebounds and three assists for Post Falls (6-2).
“We got some really tough kind of rebounds tonight,” McLean said. “I was really happy with how Asher and Neil played. Neil did a really good job of getting us going when Clarkston was trying to plug us up.”
Carter Steinwand scored 12 points for Clarkston (4-3).

POST FALLS — Sophomore JJ Yearout scored 14 points, and the visiting Lumberjacks pulled away in the second half to notch their first victory of the season, a nonleague win over the Jaguars at The Courts at Real Life.
Sophomore Xavier Sloper added 12 points for St. Maries (1-4), which led by eight points at halftime, then outscored the hosts 29-12 in the second half.
“We didn’t handle their pressure very well,” Genesis Prep coach Lon Morast said. “They ran their offense really well, and we did not.”
Junior Spencer Farrell hit four 3-pointers and led Genesis Prep (4-2) with 14 points.
St. Maries plays host to Priest River today at 4:30 in the Central Idaho League opener.
Genesis Prep plays at the Lake City junior varsity on Wednesday.

SPIRIT LAKE — Junior Tyler Engelson scored 20 points, and the host Tigers pulled away in the third quarter to finish off the Stags in nonleague play.
Jacob Yetter added 18 points, Nathaniel Dykeman 12 for Timberlake (3-5), which outscored Deer Park 23-14 in the third quarter after leading 27-20 at halftime. Engleson scored eight points, Yetter seven for the Tigers in the third.
“We just came out with a little more intensity,” Timberlake coach Mike LaFountaine said of the third quarter. “We tried to push the ball and play our style, and it resulted in points.”
Cooper Rich led Deer Park (2-3) with 16 points.
Timberlake travels to Lakeland on Monday.

CRAIGMONT — Junior Chris Moore poured in four 3-pointers and scored 33 points, and the Warriors closed strong before falling short to the host Huskies in nonleague play.
Senior Ty Goeckner scored 19 points for Highland (6-2), which jumped out to a 26-10 first-quarter lead.
“Tough loss today,” Kootenai coach Tom Tucker said. “Boys played amazing in the second half; another great performance by Chris tonight. A ton of work still to do, but we are getting better every time we play.”
Simon Hodges added eight points for Kootenai (0-3), which returns to action Jan. 9 at Wallace.
