Lance Henry Liebig “The Hawk”, 73, of Hayden, Idaho, passed away Aug. 26, 2023.

Lance was born Dec. 2, 1949, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Clarence and Jane Liebig. He moved to California at the age of 2 and attended school in Granada Hills, Calif.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1969 and served in Vietnam from December 1969 to December 1970.

After his time in the service, he returned to the San Fernando Valley in California. He married his wife, Janet Hadden, on Oct. 17, 1987, in Granada Hills.  He worked in numerous endeavors, ultimately retiring from his job at the Polk, Scheer & Prober Law Firm, where he worked for 20 years.

After retiring in 2004, he authored a book called The Store of “Fleet Line Marine” and K&O Models, Inc., detailing the history of his family’s model boat company, which is enjoyed by collectors around the world.  In 2014, he and his wife, Janet, moved to Hayden, Idaho, to be close to their children and grandchildren.

While living in Hayden, he enjoyed spending time with his family, including fishing on his pontoon boat on Hayden Lake, visiting local restaurants (including his favorite Friday night spot, Toro Viejo in Hayden) and “spoiling” his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fitness activities, including boxing, training, biking and hiking. His time here was also made special by new friends Chuck Mendoza and Craig Feistner.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet, of 35 years of Hayden, Idaho; his daughter, Julie (Steve) McCaughan of Hayden, Idaho; nephews Travis (Lonna) Barber of Spokane, Wash., and Donald Liebig of Chatsworth, Calif.; niece Brianne Monet of Edmonds, Wash.; grandchildren Krissy (Jake) Crawford, Dylan McCaughan, Trinity Barber and Tyler Barber; and great-granddaughters Scarlett Crawford and Crimson Crawford.

A celebration of life will be held at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens on Dec. 22, 2023, at 11 a.m., followed by lunch at Radicci Italian Bistro.
