PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Timberlake creates own energy, runs away from East Valley

| December 13, 2023 1:11 AM

SPIRIT LAKE — The Timberlake Tigers broke open a close game by outscoring the East Valley Knights by 22 points in the middle two quarters en route to a 73-43 nonleague win Tuesday night.

Tyler Engelson scored 11 of his 24 points in the first quarter for Timberlake (2-4), which led by just three points after one quarter, playing in the opener of the boy/girl varsity doubleheader. The Tigers’ pressure defense started paying off in the second quarter.

“There was no one in the stands, so we had to create our own energy, and it finally happened,” Timberlake coach Mike LaFountaine said. “We were able to do some things in transition, get some steals and pull away.”

Nathaniel Dykeman added 10 points for Timberlake.

Nehemiah Harry scored 13 points for East Valley (0-4).
