PREP BASKETBALL: Post Falls girls ‘steal’ win over Lewiston

POST FALLS — Seniors Leti Asper and Kinlee McLean each had five of Post Falls’ 22 steals as the Trojans defeated the Lewiston Bengals 53-39 in Inland Empire League play Monday night at The Arena.

Myckenzee Mitley had four steals, Brooklynn Brennan and Kailey Walton three steals each, Katie Berg two for Post Falls (4-7, 2-1 IEL).

“We were playing great defense tonight,” Trojans coach Brian Hall said. “It was just great hustle. We talked about every ball on the floor is ours, and they worked as hard as they could to get every loose ball, and they got a lot of ‘em.”

Brennan scored 21 points for Post Falls. Asper had 13 points and four rebounds. The Trojans were 17 of 20 from the line, led by Berg, who was 6 of 6.

Junior Addison McKarcher scored 14 points for Lewiston (3-5, 1-3).

Post Falls plays at Clarkston on Friday.

Symone Pilgrim added 10 points and six rebounds for North Idaho Christian (9-0), Jennifer Peterson had 10 points, and Chelsey Cate had eight points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots.

Edye Smawley scored 15 points for the Spokane Athletic Co-Op.

North Idaho Christian plays host to Spokane Classical Christian on Friday at the HUB Sports Center in Liberty Lake.

SPIRIT LAKE — Ryker Brennan hit three 3-pointers and scored 15 points and the host Timberlake “C” team took the lead late in the fourth quarter and defeated the Mullan varsity.

Stephen Petit scored a game-high 16 points for Mullan (0-4), and also had six rebounds and three steals. 

“We got off to slow starts in both halves,” Mullan coach Paul Elston said. “We fought back each time, but Timberlake just made a couple more plays than we did.”

Mullan travels to Clark Fork on Thursday to open North Star League play.
