PREP BASKETBALL: Jerome powers Kellogg past Wallace for Silver Valley tourney title

WALLACE — Senior Macy Jerome scored 21 points for the Kellogg Wildcats in a 63-43 win over the Wallace Miners in the championship game of the Silver Valley Tournament on Saturday at Kirby Krulitz Court.

Senior Dani Schillereff added 14 points for Kellogg (4-1), which beat Wallace 61-43 last Tuesday in Kellogg.

Senior Britany Phillips scored 21 points, freshman Khepri Wood scored 15 points for Wallace (5-2), which hosts East Valley on Monday.

Kellogg host Stevensville, Mont., on Tuesday.

SPIRIT LAKE — Ashlan Bryant drove the length of the court and scored as time expired to lift the Stags past the Tigers in a nonleague game.

“We just didn’t take care of the ball as well in the second half,” said Timberlake coach Matt Miller, whose team led 29-19 at halftime. “The first half, we took care of the ball and played some of our best defense of the season. We just weren’t as sharp in the second half on both ends of the court.”

Payton Young scored 13 points, Marissa Needs 12 points for Timberlake (5-1), which hosts East Valley on Tuesday.

Chelsey Cate had 17 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots, Kenna Brotherton 10 rebounds for North Idaho Christian (8-0, 2-0 MCL), which faces Spokane Athletic Co-Op on Tuesday at the Garland Church.

POST FALLS — Senior Tyras Blake scored seven of his game-high 16 points in the second quarter for the Trojans in a win over the Saxons at The Arena.

Senior Asher Bowie had seven of his 13 points in the fourth quarter, senior Neil McCarthy five assists and two steals for Post Falls.

“Ferris really tried to push the ball for more possessions in the third quarter,” Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. “Neil did a great job getting us into our sets, whether it was man or zone. He did a good job of getting us into positions where we could find some success. Asher did a good job of establishing his presence inside and keeping their bigs off the boards and really set the tone inside for us.”

Post Falls (5-2) travels to Clarkston on Friday.

POST FALLS — Brady Rubert scored 24 points for the Jaguars in a nonleague win over the Saints at The Courts.

Rubert had three 3-pointers, two coming in the fourth quarter for Genesis Prep (3-1), which travels to Clark Fork on Tuesday.

“Brady’s a great competitor,” Genesis Prep coach Lon Morast said. “He just battles and plays the entire game. As a team, we played hard and held our composure. They got up eight, but we just kept executing and found a way to get some baskets.”

Thomas Schlader scored 24 points for Coeur du Christ.
