COEUR d'ALENE RECREATION

Basketball: The Coeur d’Alene Recreation Department will register Dec. 11-Jan. 3 for the kindergarten, first and second grade boys and girls basketball leagues.  

The program is set to begin approximately the third week in January and run through mid-March. Cost is $35 for city residents and $40 for non-city residents. Registration is at the Coeur d’Alene City Hall, recreation department, 710 Mullan Ave., or online at teamsideline.com/cdaid. Scholarships are available at the Coeur d'Alene recreation department office. 

Boys and girls will play in separate leagues. Kids are placed on teams by school. No requests are taken.

Games and practices are scheduled Monday–Thursday evenings and Saturdays. Practices will begin end of January and last about two weeks, with games to follow.

8-foot baskets and a junior-sized basketball are used.  

Coaches and sponsors are needed. Team sponsorship is $165. Deadline to sponsor is Jan. 3.

SELECT SOCCER

The Timbers North FC 2009 boys Academy team, coached by Mike Thompson, played in the Competitive Division of the Timbers Alliance Showcase in the Portland metro area this past weekend, and walked away with three wins. 

On Friday, Dec. 1 vs. Capital FC 2009, the Timbers won 3-0. The first goal was made by Isaac Lowder off a corner from Ethan Luna. Luna scored the second goal unassisted. The third goal was scored by Pax Longanecker from a pass made by Mason Taylor. Grant Johnson had the shutout in goal.

On Saturday, Dec. 2 vs. the Timbers beat Seattle Celtic 4-2. Taylor Smith opened the scoring with a corner assist from Ethan Luna. Jacob Melun then scored a header goal off a corner assist from Mason Taylor. Taylor passed and assisted the third goal to Jacob Shaporda. The fourth goal came in the second half off another corner assist from Taylor to Smith to find the net.  

On Sunday, Dec. 3 vs. the Timbers defeated FC Portland 2-0. Taylor Smith opened the scoring in the second half off a corner from Ethan Luna. Isaac Lowder scored the second goal off a ball crossed from out wide by Mason Taylor. Grant Johnson notched the shutout in goal.
