PREP BASKETBALL: Brennan leads Post Falls girls past Ridgeline

POST FALLS — Senior Brooklynn Brennan displayed her versatility Monday night in leading the Post Falls Trojans to a 72-67 nonleague victory over the Ridgeline Falcons at The Arena.

Brennan, normally a point guard who has signed to play at NAIA Montana State-Billings, played some at shooting guard and finished with 27 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals for Post Falls (3-6). 

“She stepped up as a leader tonight,” Post Falls coach Brian Hall said of Brennan, who hit two 3-pointers.

Junior Myckenzee Mitley hit three 3s and added 13 points for the Trojans. Sophomore Kailey Walton, who played some point guard when Brennan shifted positions, added 12 points, and Kinlee McLean grabbed six rebounds. 

“Kinley’s not really big (5-8), but she worked hard down low,” Hall said. 

Grace Sheridan, a freshman point guard, hit three 3s and led all scorers with 30 points for Ridgeline (2-2). Sophomore forward/center Madilyn Crowley added 19 points.

“Our team worked well together tonight,” Hall said.

Post Falls travels to Sandpoint on Friday.

PRIEST RIVER — Senior Katie Yount scored 18 points for the visiting Jaguars, who trailed 11-2 in the first quarter before taking the lead in the second en route to the win over the Spartans in nonleague play.

Junior Ella Martin added 11 points and seven rebounds for Genesis Prep. Kinzie Lawler had seven rebounds, Pearl Covey six boards and four assists.

Helenna White scored 12 points for Priest River.

Genesis Prep travels to Clark Fork tonight.

PLUMMER — Junior Jennifer Peterson scored 14 points as the visiting Royals defeated the Knights in nonleague play at Ron Miller Court.

Symone Pilgrim added 12 points for North Idaho Christian School (7-0).

Kyleigh Wolfe scored 14 points for Lakeside (1-3).

“They just made a couple more plays at the end,” Lakeside coach Chris Dohrman said of North Idaho Christian. “I was proud of our girls’ effort.”

The Royals play Christian Center School on Saturday at the Boys & Girls Club of Coeur d’Alene.

Lakeside is home vs. the Post Falls JV on Wednesday.

MOSCOW — Sophomore Caden Symons sank two 3-pointers and scored all 10 of his points in the first quarter as the visiting Vikings ran away from the Bears in nonleague play at Bear Den.

Junior Carter Rupp hit three of his four 3s, and scored 11 of his 16 points in the second quarter for Coeur d’Alene (3-0). 

Senior Logan Orchard scored 11 points, and earned kudos from Viking coaches for his defense on Bears standout Ian Hillman, who finished with eight points for Moscow (1-2).

Trey Nipp scored all nine of his points in the fourth quarter, all on 3s.

The Vikings used pressure defense to barge out to a 38-15 halftime lead.

Coeur d’Alene plays host to Sandpoint tonight at 7.

POST FALLS — Junior Tyras Blake dropped in 22 points and grabbed five rebounds as the Trojans downed the Falcons of Liberty Lake in nonleague play at The Arena.

Senior Alex Shields added 18 points and five assists for Post Falls (3-2), and sophomore Connor Carver had 12 points and seven boards.

“We got a lot of shots in and around the lane, which is what we hoped for,” Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. “I think we were able to create some mismatches and exploit them. With Blake, Shields and Carver, we were able to exploit their on-ball screens.”

Sophomore Caden Andreas scored 20 points for Ridgeline (2-1). 

Post Falls plays host to University on Thursday.

PRIEST RIVER — The visiting Jaguars hit nine 3-pointers, three in an 11-0 run to open the second quarter, and never looked back in the nonleague victory over the Spartans.

Sophomore Brady Rubert scored 20 points for Genesis Prep (1-1). Junior Spencer Farrell hit three 3s and added 11 points, and junior Dylan Tosh made three 3s and finished with nine points. Tosh also had five assists and four steals, Farrell four assists and four steals.

“I liked how we played unselfish basketball,” Genesis Prep coach Lon Morast said. “We played pretty good defense. I didn’t like that we turned the ball over too many times.”

Junior Sawyer Staudt led Priest River with 15 points, and junior Palmer Coleman added 14 points and eight steals. Carter Cook had 10 rebounds.

Genesis Prep travels to Wallace on Thursday to open Scenic Idaho Conference play.

MULLAN — Freshman Britton Johnston scored 10 of his game-high 20 points in the first quarter as the visiting Timberwolf JV2 squad defeated the Tigers varsity at the Mullan Pavilion.

“They’re long, and they've got some athleticism,” Mullan coach Paul Elston said. “They’re more than a great program;  they’re an elite program. Our kids hung in there for the most part tonight. They out-heighted us, but our kids showed some pretty good toughness.”

Steve Petit had eight points, Kofi Appiah seven rebounds for Mullan (0-2), which plays Coeur du Christ on Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic School in Coeur d’Alene.
