COMMUNITY LIBRARY NETWORK TRUSTEES: Don’t believe in community

| December 3, 2023 1:00 AM

If we thought the libraries were safe to stay open after the CLN Trustees’ ineptitude was revealed, we were wrong. The Trustees are now here to take away another part of the library network: community.

Library events are safe and affordable places to have a good time, connect with others, explore different avenues of reading, and rediscover classics. I always have a good time when I attend a library event. I’m a regular at Hayden Library’s monthly trivia nights.

Library events get people through the doors. They encourage people to read and use the many resources the library has available. I’ve learned some new resources while attending an event — and I’d consider myself a library expert having worked at the Hayden Library and other libraries for six plus years in the past.

The CLN Board of Trustees is laboring under the notion that they are doing something good for the community at large; however, they are simply cutting the community off at the knees by weakening outreach. This is a typical move of the majority of the Trustee Board, who would diminish and hogtie community, a self-righteous move they gleefully enact all while claiming they’re doing it for community.
