PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Colvin lifts Vikings past Eagle with big second quarter

COEUR d’ALENE — Teagan Colvin scored 12 of her game-high 19 points in the second quarter as the Coeur d’Alene Vikings erased a slim first-quarter deficit and defeated the Eagle Mustangs 58-42 on Friday night at Viking Court.

Maddie Mitchell added 13 points for Coeur d’Alene (4-1), in a rematch of last year’s first-round clash at state.

Alyson Vieira scored nine of her 11 points in the second quarter for Eagle (2-4).

Coeur d’Alene plays host to Rocky Mountain of Meridian today at 1 p.m., in a rematch of last year’s state title game won by the Vikings.

COEUR d’ALENE — Senior Kamryn Pickford hit a 3-pointer with 18 seconds remaining to give the Timberwolves a 46-44 lead, but Grizzlies senior Cianna Legaspi answered with a 3-pointer with 5.2 remaining for the final margin.

Lake City (5-1) led 18-5 after the first quarter and 27-14 at the half.

“Our pressure defense was working well in the first half,” Lake City coach David Pratt said. “We held them to 14 points in the first half, and felt good about that. We just couldn’t hit shots in the second half, which led to us not being able to set our press. They changed the pace and did a nice job of attacking at the end of the shot clock.”

Senior Avery Waddington scored 12 points, Sophia Zufelt 11 points and Pickford 10 points for Lake City, which hosts Meridian today at 1 p.m.

Anna DaBell and Logan Sailors scored 10 points each for Rocky Mountain (4-1), which plays at Coeur d’Alene in a rematch of the state 5A championship game today at 1 p.m.

POST FALLS — Brooklynn Brennan hit four 3-pointers and scored 25 points, and the Trojans jumped out to a 22-6 lead after one quarter en route to the victory over the Warriors at The Arena.

“I was proud of the girl, they showed what they could do by working as a team,” Post Falls coach Brian Hall said. “They let it all loose tonight.”

Leti Asper hit three 3s and had 14 points to go with 10 rebounds for Post Falls (2-5), and Myckenzee Mitley also scored 14 points.

Kayden Allen, a 6-foot senior post, came off the bench and grabbed 13 rebounds. 

“Meridian had a big girl, and she played real good defense on her,” Hall said of Allen.

Meridian committed its fifth foul midway through the first quarter, triggering the new rule giving a team two free throws from the fifth foul on each quarter. Post Falls sank 11 of 16 from the line in the first quarter.

“I was really liking the new rule tonight,” Hall said. 

Kinlee McLean had eight rebounds for Post Falls, which plays Eagle today at 1.

Junior Morgan Dick hit five 3s and scored 17 points for Meridian (2-3).

SPOKANE — Senior Kurtsten McKellips scored eight of her game-high 14 points in the first quarter for the Tigers in a win over the Wolfpack.

Morgan Dickson scored 11 points, Diana Nelson, Jozee MacArthur and Marissa Needs had nine points each for Timberlake (3-0).

“We had really good balance again, which was nice to see,” Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. “We shared the ball well, found the open shot and did a good job on the defensive end.”

Shalene Ervin scored eight points for North Central.
