NIC TRUSTEES: Money drain for second president ‘inexcusable’

| December 1, 2023 1:00 AM

Just days ago, the Oversight Committee informed NIC, and the community, of the objectives that need to be met to retain accreditation. There is an urgency now to meet these expectations.

First, we need to acknowledge that we have a very qualified, capable, and respected president, Dr. Nick Swayne. NIC is not a baseball team where we have a bullpen so we can have a “fill in” interim president warming up to go to bat. The courts, the community, the students have spoken, and Dr. Swayne is president. The money drain of continuing to pay for “two” presidents is outrageous and inexcusable.

There are other important goals to be met that can be viewed online. The reality is if NIC loses accreditation and closes it doors, fingers will be pointed directly at those on the board who didn’t place the students’ needs first and foremost in their actions and decisions. Those same people who drained the monetary resources of the college, and taxpayers, will carry that legacy with them for the rest of their lives.

And if you think lawsuits are being filed now, if this college closes, I shudder to think how many lawsuits will happen. Do you think dashing the academic dreams of these promising students is worth it? Further, you will offend staff, alums, and those with ties to the college across the county. I know people far and wide who are watching the meetings online. The legacy you leave is up to you.
