RATHDRUM — Coaches always tell their players to play to the whistle.
So when the Hawks did, good things happened.
Austin Parks scored in the 79th minute, following up a goal by Hudson Drake in the 78th as the Hawks rallied to a draw with the Bengals at Sunrise Rotary Field.
“Hudson, with a couple of minutes to go, asked if he could move up from his center back spot,” Lakeland coach Nick Haynes said. “And he just took off and they passed it out to their goalie, and Hudson stole it to score. Austin, he picked off a pass and just put it in. I’ve been telling our guys to never give up and play to the whistle, and they did that. We had a ton of opportunities, but the kids fought the entire game, which was good to see.”
Lakeland (0-2-1, 0-1-1 IEL) travels to Sandpoint next Wednesday.
