Incumbent English announces candidacy for Cd'A council seat

Dan English is seeking reelection to Seat 5 on the Coeur d’Alene City Council.

English filed his candidacy papers Monday, the first day of the candidate filing period for the Nov. 7 election. He said in a news release that he was at the county election office to get his petition signatures verified and at the city clerk’s office to file for office first thing in the morning.

“I hoped to be first in line in both places,” English said in a news release announcing his candidacy.

English found two people were there ahead of him — a person filing for a Rathdrum City Council seat and another person filing for Seat 5 on the Coeur d’Alene City Council, the one English currently holds.

“I will let him share his own name, but I am glad to see interest in our city elections. This is a critical decision for all our local governing boards that are on the ballot,” English said in the release. “Perhaps never before have the choices been in such contrast to each other as each candidate and their supporters reflect their values and vision for their communities.”

English was first elected to the City Council in 2015 and again in 2019. He is a former Kootenai County clerk.

“My approach is simple and consistent with the lifetime of community service I have enjoyed in our local communities. I don’t jump to conclusions, I listen and respond with respect, and then I make clear decisions that I am willing to explain on the various votes and positions I have taken in elected office,” English said in the release. “To me, it is much more about what needs to get done than who gets the credit or who will be happy or angry about my decision.”

He said he is humbled and encouraged by the amount of financial and other support he has already received for this election.

“I pledge to do my very best to honor the trust that has been given to me in my prior years as an elected official and hopefully, for four more years on the Coeur d’Alene City Council,” English said.
