PREP VOLLEYBALL: Coeur d’Alene outlasts Lakeland

COEUR d’ALENE — In a match that lasted some two hours, the Coeur d’Alene Vikings rallied to win the final two sets and beat the Lakeland Hawks 26-24, 20-25, 16-25, 25-22, 16-14 in a nonleague match Tuesday night at Viking Court.

“I knew it was going to be a battle; both teams have a lot of offensive power,” Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis said. “It was a back-and-forth battle to see who could outlast the other.”

Junior Paisley Goings totaled 13 kills, 14 digs and three aces for Coeur d’Alene (7-0). Kaydence Green and Olivia Naccarato had nine kills each, Lizzy Hardy 19 assists, Bailey Jaworski 17 assists, Gracie Legg 25 digs and three aces, Alexa Stavros three aces, Gia Janke four blocks, Gianna Callari two blocks.

“I was proud of our middles — they made some big plays that changed the momentum,” Curtis said. “I’m just proud of my girls, how they battled (the last two sets); they share in each other’s successes.”

For Lakeland (2-1), Landree Simon had 18 kills, Ziya Munyer 15 kills, eight blocks and three aces, Addy Hocking 29 digs, Ella Terzulli 25 assists, Olivia Zazuetta 20 assists, Alexis Hanna 15 digs.

“It was a great game tonight,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “Both teams battled for every point and played really well. Landree and Ziya both stepped up big. Alexis and Addy Jo played outstanding tonight on defense, picking up some very tough hits. Our setters made some very smart choices with their setting, and we are looking to continue the momentum into tomorrow night against Post Falls.”

Lakeland plays host to Post Falls tonight at 7 in an Inland Empire League match.

Coeur d’Alene visits Sandpoint on Thursday in IEL play.

Lake City

MOSCOW — The visiting Timberwolves got off to a slow start in a 25-11, 25-22, 22-25, 25-17 loss to the Bears in Inland Empire League play at Bear Den.

Taylor Winey had 26 assists for Lake City (0-3, 0-2 IEL). Jessalyn Wilson had 11 kills and two aces, Daphne Neeley 16 digs, Lola Jeanselme eight kills, seven digs and four aces, Camryn Woodman four kills.

“Tough loss on the road to a scrappy team, but we are finding our groove and getting a little better every day,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “It’s frustrating, but this group is eager to put in the work. We’ll get there.”

Moscow is 1-1, 1-0.

Lake City returns to action next Tuesday at home vs. Lewiston.

Timberlake

SPIRIT LAKE — The visiting Maniacs edged the Tigers 25-29, 20-25, 14-25, 25-14, 15-13 in nonleague play.

Junior Maci Sandbank had 16 kills and 17 digs for Timberlake (0-2). Isabelle Torr had 23 digs, Linley Howard seven kills and four aces, Jozee MacArthur 30 assists and 12 digs, Hailey Armes two blocks.

“Both teams were very evenly matched and it was a hard-fought battle on behalf of both teams,” Timberlake coach Michelle Garwood said, noting the Tigers trailed 13-9 in the fifth set before tying it at 13. “I am proud of the progress that we made from the last match we played.”

Timberlake travels to St. Maries on Tuesday.

Bonners Ferry

BONNERS FERRY — Maddie Cheney had 15 kills and four blocks for the Wildcats in a 25-23, 25-20, 25-14 win over the Badgers in the nonleague season opener for both schools.

“We made good, smart adjustments,” Kellogg coach Stephanie Batchelder said. “We switched our offense a few different times, and it was nice to see we had some options. We really set the tempo and it was good to see our girls stick with it.”

Brielle Hei had nine digs, Paige Yrjana four aces and Ragen Oertli 14 assists for Kellogg, which travels to Clarkston on Sept. 7.

Lakeside

WALLACE — The host Miners downed the Knights 25-21, 25-21, 25-19 in Scenic Idaho Conference play at Kirby Krulitz Court.

Kimberly Pluff had six kills and 11 digs for Lakeside (0-2, 0-1 SIC). Martina Rivera had four kills, three aces, 13 digs and 12 assists, Tylah Lambert three kills, 11 digs and 13 assists, Kylee Shot With Arrow five blocks, Meyha Wienclaw seven blocks and six digs.

“We played a good game against a good team,” Lakeside coach Te’a Kolar said. “Wallace has some really good hitters and we pushed hard tonight, but couldn’t pull it through.”

Lakeside returns to action next Wednesday at home vs. North Central.
