Ben Zimmerman, 82
Longtime Coeur d’Alene/Post Falls resident Ben Edward Zimmerman, 82, born Jan. 7, 1941, to Ben and Regina Zimmerman, passed away Aug. 24, 2023.
Ben was born in Roundup, Mont. His family moved to Coeur d’Alene in the mid-1940s. When Ben was a teenager, he worked in his parents' “Spudnut” shop. Ben also worked and owned several machine shops, starting with Ben’s Speed Shop in the mid-60s. In 1992, he opened “PMS” Power Machine Services, where he worked until he retired.
Ben was a car enthusiast, he loved hot rods and race cars. He raced all over the Northwest, including the Deer Park Drag Strip in the '60s and for most of the 1970s, racing C cars and Super Stock. He also raced the Bonneville Salt Flats in the early '90s.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Regina Zimmerman. He is survived by his older brother, Walt, and wife Marily; his daughter, Louise Zimmerman; son Ben Zimmerman and wife Kandi from his first marriage to Sandra; son Tim Zimmerman, wife Wendy and daughter Maria Marmon from his second marriage to Kathryn. He’ll be missed by his 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a nephew and many old-time hotrodder friends.
Memorial service to be held Monday, Sept. 4, at 2:30 p.m. at 2626 N. Greensferry Road, Post Falls. It is requested if you have a hot rod, drive it, and wear your favorite hot rod shirt. Also, if you have any photos of you and Ben, bring those so we can share in the memories. If you have any stories, please write them down to share with the family.
