PREP ROUNDUP: Cd'A's Potter wins; Viking boys, girls nab team titles

GOLF

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Grant Potter shot a 4-under 68 to earn medalist honors and lead the Coeur d’Alene boys to the team title at the Lake City Invitational on Monday at the Coeur d’Alene Golf Club.

Senior Trey Nipp shot 69 for Coeur d’Alene, which totaled 292 and won by 23 shots over Lake City.

Max Hosfeld and Trey Lambert each shot 73 for Lake City.

Tyler Zachary led Lakeland with a 77.

Coeur d’Alene’s girls shot 338 to win the team title by 18 shots over Sandpoint. Mady Riley of Coeur d’Alene was third overall with an 81.

“Our kids are playing some really consistent golf from tee to green right now, and it’s paying off with each team posting their low team score of the year,” Coeur d’Alene girls coach Jeff Lake said of the Vikings.

Next up is the Lakeland Invitational on Thursday at The Links Golf Club in Post Falls.

RATHDRUM — Cazwell McKenzie scored the go-ahead goal from 5 feet out at the far post off a corner kick with some 15 minutes left as the visiting Tigers beat the Hawks in nonleague play at Sunrise Rotary Fields.

“We’ve struggled against corners this year,” Lakeland coach Nick Haynes said. “Timberlake played well, (Mason) Thaxton and (Hayden) Jonas are great players. They just worked a little harder than we did.”

Scott Glass headed in a cross from Austin Parks late in the first half for Lakeland to tie the game at 2 at intermission.

On Wednesday, Timberlake (3-1-1) travels to Grangeville, and Lakeland (0-2-0) is home vs. Lewiston.
