The Idaho Statesman and ProPublica, a national nonprofit newsroom, are collecting data about the condition of school buildings throughout Idaho.
So far, they’ve heard from about 80% of Idaho superintendents and dozens of students and educators about issues in their schools, such as classrooms that are “sweltering” at the start of the school year or cold in the winter; a heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit nearly catching fire; basements flooding during heavy rain; and bats getting into the building.
The deadline for students, families and school staff to submit stories and photos is Sept. 30.
