PREP ROUNDUP: Coeur d'Alene boys shine at Libby Invitational

CROSS COUNTRY

LIBBY, Mont. — Coeur d’Alene junior Max Cervi-Skinner won in 15 minutes, 31.3 seconds, leading the Vikings to the team title at the season-opening Libby Invitational at Libby Golf Course.

Coeur d’Alene senior Jacob King was second in 15:31.57, senior Lachlan May third in 15:46.73 and Zack Cervi-Skinner fourth in 15:49.05 for the Vikings, who won with a perfect score of 15.

Timberlake senior Jacob Barnhart was ninth in 16:42.2.

Coeur d’Alene sophomore Olivia May won the girls race in 19:16.79. Junior Chloe Frank was eighth (21:20.66) and junior Olivia Fishback 10th (21:32.02) for Coeur d’Alene, which was runner-up with 55 points.

Flathead of Kalispell, Mont., won the girls team title with 25 points.

LEWISTON — Ziya Munyer had 12 kills and six blocks as the visiting Hawks beat the Bengals 25-22, 25-20, 25-12 in nonleague play.

Alyssa Ryckman added 12 kills, Landree Simon 10 kills, Addy Hocking 19 digs, Alexis Hanna 11 digs and three aces, Ella Terzulli 19 assists and three aces, Olivia Zazuetta 17 assists.

“Slow start for us tonight, but things started to click during the third set,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “Ziya played well at the net, both on offense and defense. Our setters were able to mix up the sets, keeping Lewiston guessing on its block. Defensively our team played lights out. Landree had a great game with some untouchable hits. We have some things to work on, but overall I’m proud of how the girls battled for the win tonight.”

Lakeland (2-0) travels to Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday.

Post Falls wins three at Kuna Klassic

KUNA — The Trojans beat Countil 25-18, 25-10, Emmett 25-10, 25-9 and Kuna 26-24, 25-14 in pool play Friday at the Kuna Klassic.

Kylie Munday had 27 kills, 20 assists, eight blocks, 15 digs and four aces for Post Falls (5-0). Trinity Byrne added 16 kills and four aces, Vanessa Kison 17 kills and 16 digs, Lucy Carr 31 assists, Sam Anderson seven blocks, Kaela Gump seven blocks, Danielle Codd 18 digs.

Another round of pool play is scheduled for this morning, followed by bracket play.

POST FALLS — Alexa Sheppard and Agnes Nordstedt recorded hat tricks for the Panthers in an Intermountain League win over the Lumberjacks at The Fields.

“We struggled to make good connections and shots on target during the first half of the game,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “We talked about a few things at halftime and the girls were able to make some quick adjustments. We were able to give everyone good minutes today, which only builds confidence from some of our younger players.”

Coeur d’Alene Charter (2-0, 1-0 IML) face Bonners Ferry on Monday at The Fields.
