PREP FOOTBALL: Timberlake weathers delay, blanks South Fremont
ST. ANTHONY — Timberlake jumped out to a 29-0 lead after one quarter, then weathered a 45-minute lightning and thunderstorm delay, then went on to beat South Fremont 43-0 on Friday night in nonleague play.
Timberlake (2-0) rushed for 261 yards, with Cooper Lenz running for 112 yards and a touchdown, Caius Tebbe 85 yards and a score, and Vaughn Higgins 68 yards and two TDs.
Timberlake coach Kelly Amos praised the entire offensive line, led by senior tackle Isaiah Schultz and junior guard Jeremy Hurlburt, for dominating what was said to be the strength of South Fremont’s defense.
“Our offensive line was super physical, just did a great job making holes, moving people,” Amos said. “It was as good a offensive line play as we’ve seen here in many years. From wingback to tight end, they all moved people.”
Late in the first quarter, Luke Schell of Timberlake blocked a punt, Jonathan Hansen picked it up and ran it in for a TD from 27 yards out.
“Our defense played fantastic,” Amos said.
South Fremont is 0-2.
Timberlake plays at Shadle Park (0-0) next Friday at 4 p.m.
