Silverwood growing an 'Emerald Forest'

When the gates to Boulder Beach at Silverwood Theme opened at 11 a.m. Thursday, hundreds of kids and adults began streaming in.

Some were bound for Richochet Rapids. Others headed for Avalanche Mountain. Many rushed for Velocity Peak.

Next summer, they'll hurry to Emerald Forest.

Park officials Thursday announced a $15 million expansion on nearly 4 acres that will add a water roller coaster, slides with a splash pad and a food pavilion.

"Who’s ready for 2024?" said Stephanie Sampson, Silverwood public relations manager, to a select group of about 75 visitors, who cheered in response as the expansion was announced.

Silverwood Chief Operations Officer David Norton said Boulder Beach has become one of the park's most popular attractions. But the rise in attendance has led to longer wait times for food and attractions.

Emerald Forest, described as "enchanted" in a short video, should reduce lines at other water activities while giving guests even more to do.

"This will definitely enhance their experience here at the park,” Norton said.

Sampson said the expansion of Boulder Beach was driven by the desire "to create unforgettable experiences" for guests.

"We wanted to create a space that not only offered thrilling attractions but also immersed our visitors in a world of natural wonder and enchantment,” she said.

Construction is underway on the new section, which will have the Salmon Run splash pad area that will feature eight slides from 36 feet to 82 feet long and 6 to 9 feet tall.

Eagle Hunt was billed as the first dueling water coaster on the West Coast and capable of handling 720 riders per hour.

"This will not only be the longest water slide in all of Boulder Beach, but it will be the longest water slide in the nation," a press release said.

Another feature of Eagle Hunt will be its race-against-the-clock capabilities, as riders will try to catch prey such as a turtle, fish, squirrel, rabbit, duck or fox.

"It will feel like you’re diving through trees toward your prey as you come splashing down at the end," said Jordan Carter, director of marketing and entertainment.

The new food pavilion, Rapids Grill, will be able to serve 1,200 guests per hour, while Hook, Line and Sipper will provide beverages.

There will also be about 30 private cabanas.

Carter said, when planning the expansion, they listened to feedback of guests.

"We are getting everyone’s needs taken care of,” he said.
