PREP VOLLEYBALL: Post Falls notches wild win over Owyhee to open season

MERIDIAN — Post Falls outlasted host Owyhee 29-27, 25-22, 25-27, 25-27, 15-11 to finish 2-0 Thursday in a pair of tuneup matches for the Kuna Classic, which begins today.

Kylie Munday had 15 kills, 26 assists and eight blocks for Post Falls in its season opener. Trinity Byrne had 14 kills, Lucy Carr 21 assists, Kaela Gump nine blocks and three aces, Vanessa Kison 14 digs and three aces, Lexi Norisada 16 digs and four aces.

Earlier, Post Falls beat Emmett 25-9, 25-9, 25-20. Munday had 13 kills, 10 assists, three aces and two blocks. Byrne had six kills and nine digs, Carr 18 assists and four aces, Norisada three aces.

“The Owyhee match was amazing to be a part of,” Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. “Both teams played hard. Kylie played a complete game. Our entire team played hard tonight. We will celebrate the things we did well, and continue to improve.”

Lake City

SANDPOINT — The host Bulldogs upended the Timberwolves 27-25, 25-23, 23-25, 27-25 in an Inland Empire League match at Les Rogers Court.

It is the first loss for Lake City against Sandpoint since 2011.

Jessalyn Wilson had 18 kills and seven digs for Lake City (0-2, 0-1 IEL). Taylor Winey had 32 assists and two aces, Daphne Neeley 20 digs, Lola Jeanselme 16 digs, NorthStar Lawrence nine kills.

Lake City travels to Moscow on Tuesday.

Timberlake

SPIRIT LAKE — Jillian Russworm had seven kills and nine digs, Kennedy Prendergast five kills, three blocks and 18 assists for the 1A Division I Jaguars in a 25-16, 27-25, 25-7 win over the 3A Tigers in the nonleague opener for both at Timberlake High.

“We played really well tonight,” Genesis Prep coach Paula Thurston said. “The first game jitters were strong, but they came together as a team. It was really fun to watch them connect.”

Madi Cooper had five kills, Ella Martin four aces, Pearl Covey four aces and Laya Daniels six blocks for Genesis Prep, which hosts Mullan on Sept. 5 at The Courts.

Jozee MacArthur had 16 assists and five digs, Amarijana Olivieri five digs and five kills, Jesi Kitchin five digs, Linley Howard four kills and two blocks and Diana Nelson two blocks for Timberlake, which hosts Orofino on Tuesday.

ST. MARIES — Mia Asbury had 10 kills, Lily Daniel 33 assists and nine for the Lumberjacks in a 30-28, 24-26, 15-25, 25-8, 15-13 nonleague win over the Knights of Moscow.

“It was good to get the first game of the season out of the way,” St. Maries coach Rachele Fischer said. “We needed to get that done so we could get the nerves out and see the things we need to work on. We’re looking forward to the tournament this weekend to get some more good court time.”

Tayla Janssen had two blocks and five aces, Ava Stancil 13 digs for St. Maries, which competes in the Judy Fong Invitational on Saturday in Lewiston.

Evie Grauke had eight kills and five digs, Lucy Spencer 21 assists for Logos.

PLUMMER — The visiting Wampus Cats beat the Knights 26-24, 25-17, 25-15 in the nonleague season opener for both teams.
