William Kent Krueger to present newest novel at Cd'A library

| August 25, 2023 1:00 AM

New York Times bestselling author William Kent Krueger will introduce his new novel to Kootenai County at 7 p.m. Sept. 14 in the Community Room at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library.

Krueger will discuss “The River We Remember,” and answer questions or mingle with attendees over a no-host bar. Doors will open at 6:30 and tickets are available at cdalibrary.org for $25.

“The River We Remember” will be released Sept. 5, which will give attendees just over a week to read the book.

“On Memorial Day, as the people of Jewel, Minn., gather to remember and honor the sacrifice of so many sons in the wars of the past, the half-clothed body of wealthy landowner Jimmy Quinn is found floating in the Alabaster River, dead from a shotgun blast,” read the description for the book jacket. “Investigation of the murder falls to Sheriff Brody Dern, a highly decorated war hero who still carries the physical and emotional scars from his military service.”

“We try to get an author coming at least a couple of times a year to make a presentation,” Holly Stetson said. “Typically, they have time to read the book.”

Krueger will give a presentation on the book, often authors tend to read an excerpt, before opening to questions from the audience.

“The patrons that we have that come to these things are so knowledgeable and so intelligent,” Stetson said. “They always ask such wonderful questions.”

Typically, between 150-175 people attend, depending on the author and the weather.

Attendees can also buy raffle tickets for a number of baskets, and, after the presentation, Krueger will sign copies of his books.

The Well-Read Moose will also be on site selling copies of Krueger's books.

Krueger’s other titles include "This Tender Land," "Ordinary Grace" (winner of the Edgar Award for best novel), and the original audio novella "The Levee," as well as 19 acclaimed books in the Cork O’Connor mystery series, including "Lightning Strike" and "Fox Creek."
