TUKWILA, Wash. — Talk about the right place, right time.

North Idaho College sophomore midfielder Mariel Stuart was there on Wednesday.

Stuart scored off a corner kick in the 64th minute, the lone goal in the Cardinals 1-0 win over the Chemeketa Storm in the Northwest Athletic Conference friendlies at the Starfire Soccer Complex.

“We had a couple of bounces off the kick in the (penalty) box,” NIC women’s soccer coach Kellsi Parson said. “At one point, it just bounced right to Mariel and she knocked it home.”

NIC (3-1-0) outscored its opponents 4-0 in the friendlies.

“We put eight different kids on the back line and played really well defensively,” Parson said. “If we can continue to do that and score a couple of goals a game, we’ll be tough to beat.”

NIC hosts Pacific Northwest Christian of Pasco, Wash., on Tuesday.

First half — none. Second half — 1, NIC, Mariel Stuart (unassisted), 64:00.

Shots on goal — Chem 2, NIC 10.

Saves — Chem, Alexi Morgan, 9; NIC, Kaycee Chavez, 2.

TUKWILA, Wash. — Freshman Isaac Fritts scored in the 22nd minute for the Cardinals, who were shut out in the second half by the Bulldogs in the Northwest Athletic Conference friendlies at the Starfire Soccer Complex.

“They did everything I asked them to do and worked well as a team,” NIC men’s coach Brad Williams said. “We were just a little unlucky to give up those second half goals. We’ve got a very young group and have a lot to learn and go over. But I think we’ve figured out some lineups going forward.”

NIC (1-1-0) returns to action at Blue Mountain of Pendleton, Ore., in the Northwest Athletic Conference opener on Sept. 6.

First half — 1, NIC, Isaac Fritts (unassisted), 22:16. Second half — 2, Bell, Patrick Gloria (unassisted), 46:10. 3, Bell, Ali Alzeer (unassisted), 77:00. 4, Bell, Rex Noffsinger (unassisted), 81:00.

Shots on goal — NIC 2, Bell 5.

Saves — NIC, Samir Erasmus, 2; Bell, Eiza Van Doren, 1.
