GRANGEVILLE — Senior quarterback Cole Meidinger threw for 229 yards and three touchdowns and the 3A Timberlake Tigers pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat the 2A Grangeville Bulldogs 42-21 in the nonleague season opener for both teams Saturday night.

“We just kept fighting,” Timberlake coach Kelly Amos said. “Grangeville’s a super physical and disciplined team. We struggled to move the ball early on. Sometimes the kids lose track of what the goal is to get first downs, but we just got going in the second quarter.”

Timberlake senior wide receiver Jacob Yetter had seven catches for 176 yards and two touchdowns. Caius Tebbe ran for 135 yards and two touchdowns.

“Cole had a great game throwing the ball,” Amos said. “It really gave our running backs a chance to run the ball.”

Amos also credited the defensive effort of junior linebacker Jonathon Hansen for changing the game after halftime.

“He was dynamic at times tonight,” Amos said. “His ability to play against the run forced them to throw the ball most of the second half.”

Timberlake travels to South Fremont of St. Anthony on Friday.
