The accident occurred about 7 near Desmet Road in Benewah County, according to ISP.

A 64-year-old Post Falls man was driving a semi-truck northbound on U.S. 95 when he struck a 34-year-old pedestrian from Plummer.

The pedestrian died at the scene, ISP said.

An investigation continues.

ISP also responded to a vehicle collision about 10:45 p.m. Friday near milepost 35 on Interstate 90 in Kootenai County.

Troopers believe the driver of a Nissan Juke was westbound at a high rate of speed when it collided with a westbound Jeep Cherokee, according to an ISP press release.

The Jeep was driven by a 31-year-old woman with a 29-year-old male passenger. Both were from Spokane.

The female was transported by air ambulance to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the male passenger was transported to an area hospital by ground ambulance. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening, a press release said.

The Nissan was driven by a 24-year-old Spokane man who was arrested on probable cause for impaired driving and booked into the Kootenai County jail, the release said.

Both directions of I-90 were blocked for about three hours.

The incident remains under investigation.
