NIC SOCCER: Cardinal women open with shutout
AUBURN, Wash. — Freshman Tenley Wicks scored in the 35th minute, and Teresa Ledezma scored in the 60th as the North Idaho College women’s soccer team opened its season Friday with a 2-0 victory over Green River College in nonconference play.
Ledezma, a sophomore from Skyline High in Idaho Falls who has signed with the College of Idaho, played for the first time since suffering a torn ACL in NIC’s Elite 8 tournament match last November.
“I thought we started a bit slow, but once that first goal went in, we completely controlled the game,” NIC coach Kellsi Parson said. “I don’t think they had a shot on goal after we scored.”
NIC wraps up its two-game road trip today at noon vs. Peninsula College in Port Angeles, Wash.
First half — 1, NIC, Tenley Wicks (unassisted), 35:00. Second half — 2, NIC, Teresa Ledezma (unassisted), 60:00.
