Fire ignites in Cougar Gulch

A small fire broke out in Cougar Gulch near S. Miller Road on Friday around noon, growing to about an acre and a half, according to Kootenai County Fire and Rescue.

Evacuations were not ordered, but Kootenai County Fire and Rescue asked that people stay off Cougar Gulch Road.

Units were on scene with assistance from Coeur d’Alene Fire, Worley Fire Department, Mica Kidd Island Fire Department, Northern Lakes Fire Department and hand crews from the Idaho Department of Lands.

The fire is close to being contained; however, the wind is causing minor spot fires outside the fire’s main perimeter.

No structures are threatened at this time, and the cause is still under investigation.
