CONSTITUTION: Time to stand and defend it
You either support the Constitution and our country’s laws, or you don’t. Somehow Trump and his MAGA crew have decided that following the facts and enforcing our laws is “weaponizing” the F.B.I. and the justice department. They have determined that if they don’t win in a free and fair election that it is OK to subvert the Constitution, conduct an illegal scheme to overthrow the duly elected president, and disregard the votes of millions of people.
Trump had legal ways to challenge election results in the courts, but those efforts failed because he did not have facts on his side to change the results. Instead, he promoted the Big Lie that he had actually won the election, and engaged in a series of illegal actions to attempt to stop the peaceful transfer of power promised by our Constitution.
Trump and his cronies rage against a “Deep State” conspiracy, but the only conspiracy here has been that of Trump and his supporters and their attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. To that end they have lied, encouraged violence, threatened election workers, and more. None of these people should ever be allowed to serve in the government, now or in the future.
It seems that in each generation, we are required to stand up and defend our democracy. Some 43 years ago, I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution, an oath which has not expired. Now is the time to stand against those who would throw aside our Constitution and our laws for political gain.
