Courtesy photo The Thorns North FC 11 Girls Academy DPL team took second place in the U13G Gold Bracket last weekend at the Northwest Cup tournament. The Thorns started the tournament on Friday afternoon with a 0-0 tie with Three Rivers Soccer Club 2011 Black. On Saturday, the Thorns began the day with a 2-0 win against the Spokane Sounders Shadow G2011 DPL. Midfielders Victoria Howard and Ava Langer scored the Thorns' two goals, while keepers Constance Ovendale and Mackenzie Dolan teamed for the shutout. Later that day the Thorns tied the Spokane Sounders 11G GA team 1-1, with the Thorns goal coming from Mackenzie Dolan. Sunday morning the Thorns lost 2-1 to the Spokane Sounders 11G GA team in the tournament final. Olivia Nusser scored the Thorns' only goal on a corner kick late in the second half.
