Man charged with St. Maries murder
ST. MARIES — A man is facing murder charges after he allegedly shot and killed one person and left another person badly injured.
Jacob M. Anderson, 21, is charged with second-degree murder, aggravated battery and burglary, all felonies.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded Friday evening to reports of an altercation and gunshots at a St. Maries apartment.
Police found a 30-year-old man dead at the scene. He died from gunshot wounds to the head and other parts of his body, according to court documents.
A 59-year-old woman told police she saw Anderson remove a rifle from his vehicle before she barricaded herself inside her apartment.
Anderson allegedly broke into the woman’s apartment and attacked her, according to court documents. She said he tried to shoot her but the gun didn’t go off. Police recovered a blood-covered gun from the woman’s apartment.
The woman sustained a “deep slash” to her neck, as well as other injuries, court documents said. She was transported to Kootenai Health with critical injuries, according to the Benewah County Sheriff’s Office.
Police arrested Anderson at the scene and transported him to the Benewah County jail.
Judge Rachel Hamilton ordered Monday that Anderson be held on $750,000 bail.
