LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL: Coeur d'Alene stays alive in victory
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Trent Lilyquist struck out five over 6 2.3 innings pitched for the Coeur d’Alene 12U Little League team in a 3-1 win over Beaverton, Ore., in a loser-out game in the Northwest Regional tournament at Al Houghton Stadium on Sunday.
Coeur d’Alene will face the winner of tonight’s game between Anchorage, Alaska and Seattle, Wash., in a loser-out game on Wednesday at noon. That game will be broadcast on ESPN.
Bryce Petrella opened the scoring for Coeur d’Alene with an RBI double to score Nash Russell to take a 1-0 lead after the first inning. Clay Larwin extended the advantage with a two-run double later in the first inning, scoring Petrella and Cooper Fordham.
Beaverton put the tying run on first base in the top of the fifth inning, but Coeur d'Alene turned a double play on a flyball and throw from centerfield by JJ Larson to end the threat.
