GRATITUDE: For unknown good Samaritan

| August 4, 2023 1:00 AM

On Thursday, July 27, about 10:45 a.m., my husband, myself and our 4-year-old son were riding bikes on the trail around Riverstone Park. We turned down a hill (we hadn’t been in that area in quite a while and I wasn’t expecting it to be so steep) and our son got around us before we could catch him and sped on down, panicked, didn’t brake, and it was the scariest moment of our lives. There was nothing my husband and I could do to stop him at that point. It was a gut-wrenching helpless feeling knowing he was about to be hurt real bad and that we had failed to protect him. He had a helmet on but it would have only saved his head. It would have been bad.

I swear this angel of a woman came out of nowhere (in her 50s/60s) at the bottom of the hill, squatted down and held her arms out, bracing herself to catch him head on. And she did. It knocked her back so hard, and I can’t stop thinking about how much she has probably been hurting since. Our son was fine. He walked away with only a bloody nose from the impact. She said she was fine, but I’m sure that was probably adrenaline talking.

It is killing me because I don’t even think I said thank you … my husband and I both were pretty stunned and I was at a loss for words and that’s when I was just focused on trying to get his nose to stop bleeding. We were real shaken up the rest of the day. Had it not been for that woman, it certainly would have ended in a trip to the hospital, broken bones, stitches, or far worse. I would really like to hug that woman and tell her she will always be in our hearts as the most selfless and kind person. I truly believe God sent her that day.
