K-9 officers assist in drug busts
Kootenai County Sheriff's K-9 officers recently assisted in two separate drug busts, resulting in arrests of several individuals.
Two individuals out of Montana were incarcerated after a traffic stop late Sunday night during which KCSO's newest K-9 officer, Luuki, alerted deputies to illegal substances in the vehicle.
KCSO reported Monday a deputy initiated the traffic stop in the area of Interstate 90 and Highway 97 just east of Coeur d'Alene. Luuki and his handler assisted, the furry crimefighter positively alerting to the odor of narcotics in the vehicle.
Deputies searched the vehicle and found a revolver, cocaine, over 121 grams of methamphetamine and assorted paraphernalia.
Driver Billy Johnson and passenger Deanna Johnson were arrested for trafficking methamphetamine and possession of cocaine and paraphernalia. Billy Johnson is a convicted felon and was charged for illegally possessing a firearm.
In an earlier incident, K-9 Lord assisted his handler on a traffic stop Thursday at Seltice Way and Idahline Road in Post Falls.
Lord positively alerted to the odor of narcotics in the vehicle. Deputies searched the car and found roughly 81 grams of methamphetamine, 250 fentanyl pills and multiple pieces of paraphernalia hidden in the locked glove box.
Deputies arrested the vehicle's occupants, Taylor Glemaker and Gregory Early, both from Washington.
Lord is a 3-year-old Belgian malinois specializing in narcotic detection and patrol work.
