Pipe bomb found in Spokane River
POST FALLS — A pipe bomb was safely retrieved and disposed of by authorities Monday after an individual called the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office to report what appeared to be a pipe bomb in the Spokane River.
The sheriff's office cleared the area near the Greensferry Boat Launch in Post Falls and instructed residents to stay away as the Kootenai County Sonar team located and removed the bomb from the water with assistance from the Spokane Bomb Squad.
"The area is clear now and there is no further danger to the community," Kootenai County Sheriff's Office Lt. Justin Arts told The Press via email Monday afternoon.
Arts said he could not share any leads on how the bomb came to be in the river, but he described it as a homemade-style device with a plastic PVC case.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office at 208-446-1300.
